Jose Robledo. Second Chance. By courtesy of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Worldwide (www.mfpausa.com).
In this special issue and in the upcoming March issue, our cover features the art of patients-artists from Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, where Dr Jacquelin Perry served as Chief of the Pathokinesiology Service for 30 years. (For more Rancho art, visit ptjournal.apta.org.) Robledo has limb-girdle muscular dystrophy; at diagnosis, he was given only months to live. That was several years ago. He began to draw his feelings of anger and fear, and, while receiving rehabilitation at Rancho, continued to paint using mouthsticks: “I hope that my life can inspire my children and others to never give up.”
