Ya-weng Tseng, PT, PhD, of Temple University, is the recipient of the 2008 New Investigator Fellowship Training Initiative (NIFTI) fellowship.

Tseng receives the $78,000 award in support of her research project, "Utilizing Visual Feedback to Optimize Arm Reaching Adaptation." Her project is designed to increase the understanding of how to provide effective visual feedback when training people with brain deficits to learn a new movement pattern.

The purpose of this fellowship is to support doctorally prepared physical therapists in a mentored research experience as they begin their research careers. It is designed to accommodate both traditional postdoctoral as well as new faculty applicants and requires a commitment from the mentor as well as the institution at which the experience will take place. Tseng will be mentored by Amy Bastian, PT, PhD, Associate Professor of Neurology, the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and Director, Motion Analysis Lab, The Kennedy Krieger Institute. Bastian has an outstanding history of providing successful research experiences to postdoctoral fellows with physical therapy backgrounds.
