This excerpt was created in the absence of an abstract.
Through one of those curious meldings of circumstances, I find myself writing this Note about human resources, contemplating need- and demand-based models, while crossing the Atlantic for the third time this year. On this occasion, however, through fortuitous circumstances, I find myself sitting far closer to the pilot than the tail. I and one other fellow traveler have a 10-seat first-class cabin to ourselves, a cabin that would provide luxury when full but when barely loaded is palatial, making one feel like a potentate.
Having never even made it to business class on such a long trip, the indulgence of it all and the contrast with my usual cocoon in coach briefly evoked guilt, but that quickly faded in the face of rationalization and narcissistic delight. The eight-course meal defies description, as does the wine and the comfort of the seats....
