To the Editor:
It was with great astonishment that I read Mendel and Fish's letter to the editor in the August 1991 issue of Physical Therapy. My astonishment was due to the fact that so far, in practically no scientific paper published in the United States, have the contributions to the safety, standards, and improved efficacy of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) made by non–US authors been cited, or even mentioned. The major US handbook on TENS,1 published a number of years ago, does not answer any single question clearly. Several publications of European authors (in English) do!...
