Potential or real conflict of interest is a growing concern in the accurate and objective publication of all scientific material. The concern could apply to PHYSICAL THERAPY: The relationships between physical therapists, our primary authors, and businessmen have evolved as technology and industry have developed. Some physical therapists have become entrepreneurs of their own businesses. A potential or real conflict could result in a bias that prevents an author from carrying out his responsibility of reporting accurate data or drawing logical and reasonable conclusions based on the reported data. These responsibilities can be limited by human shortcomings.
The relationships that exist between our authors and commercial parties are not construed to be wrong, dishonorable, or dishonest. The concern is that knowledge of the existence of the relationships must not be withheld from the readers....
