Results of Manual Resistance Exercise on a Manifesting Carrier of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: A Case Report

Mr. Bohannon is Chief, Department of Physical Therapy, Southeastern Regional Rehabilitation Center, Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, PO Box 2000, Fayetteville, NC 28302 (USA).
Ms. Jones is Physical Therapist Assistant, Southeastern Regional Rehabilitation Center.

This case report is about a manifesting carrier of Duchenne muscular dystrophy who participated in a program of maximal concentric-eccentric manual resistance exercise three days each week for 12 weeks. As a consequence, she achieved mean strength increases exceeding 28% bilaterally. She also ceased falling, which she had been experiencing several times a month before beginning the exercise program.
