Using Silastic elastomer* has become increasingly popular as a "filler" for splints and for total contact pressure with burn pressure garments. Applying this elastomer is, however, often difficult when a physical therapist is working on small body areas or laminating for increased thicknesses. This is especially true when trying to mold the tacky substance in finger-web spaces or when filling anatomical depressions.
We have begun using empty toothpaste containers to make application easier. Plastic toothpaste containers are better than foil containers....
