We thank Dr. Amundsen for his commentary and are pleased that he was interested in critiquing our article. His work was the impetus for our interest in assessing the hemodynamic and energy-cost responses to changes in arm exercise technique. Dr. Amundsen's commentary and this innovative format in the Journal should be beneficial to the readers of PHYSICAL THERAPY.

We would like to respond by first agreeing with Dr. Amundsen when he states careful patient monitoring is necessary even with the availability of good predictions of MET values. Our data clearly point out the necessity of monitoring hemodynamic variables during the exercise as well as after the exercise. We further agree that METs should only be used to form a general treatment plan. These statements should not dilute the findings of this study, however, which differ from previous research.1...
